Bol — Urdu voice typing for the web and Android

One codebase serves the website and the Android WebView. Dictation picks the best engine available: a Whisper large-v3-turbo API on my server, whisper.cpp inside the app for offline use, or the browser's own speech service, and it falls back automatically mid-dictation.

Highlights

  1. Server API: faster-whisper in int8 on CPU behind nginx rate limits, token-authenticated so the app and the website share it; about four seconds round trip for a ten-second clip.
  2. Android: a Capacitor shell with a whisper.cpp JNI plugin, in-app model downloads (190–575 MB) and per-CPU ggml backends, after a debug-compiled first build took fifteen minutes for two words.
  3. Context corrector: a Kneser-Ney trigram model over eight million words of Urdu with learned confusions and a beam search, cutting word errors on damaged text from 19.9% to 5.5% while changing under 1% of already-correct text.
  4. Document model with title, heading, prose, couplet and quotation blocks; five typographic layouts rendered through CSS paged media for PDF; classic InPage clipboard encoding for desktop publishing.
  5. Narrated Urdu walkthrough and promo, filmed with the right-to-left caption pipeline.
