RetroDeck Live — one console, two places

A private streaming service rather than a browser emulator: a PCSX-ReARMed worker runs in an isolated container per room, each participant receives the picture over WebRTC, and inputs travel back on a data channel. It ran on its own cloud VM until October 2026, when it was consolidated onto the main server after a full, verified backup.

Highlights

  1. aiohttp room service with authenticated controller seats: the server, not the browser, decides which port a player drives, and stale inputs expire instead of replaying a backlog.
  2. WebRTC video (aiortc, low-delay H.264, up to 60 fps) with an unordered input channel, plus an authenticated HTTPS WebSocket fallback when WebRTC cannot connect.
  3. Every console in a fixed, immutable Docker image with no network, all capabilities dropped, a read-only root and memory and CPU caps, launched by a local broker that accepts nothing but a room ID.
  4. Up to four rooms with invitation links, spectators and a first-come controller queue, optional LiveKit room voice, silent gameplay recordings and a tournament bracket.
  5. A public engineering article explains why a shared host is not the same as equal ping; a player guide carries narrated walkthroughs in English and Hindi.
